Turnbull ‘open’ to forcing migrants into regional areas

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says he'd be open to the idea of forcing migrants to live in regional areas..

Malcolm Turnbull weighed into the debate during a visit to Queensland, where the by-election campaigning has entered the final stretch, road-testing ideas that could win votes at the general election.

Claims a population boom is cramping our big cities and pushing up house prices has led the government to consider a plan forcing migrants to live and work in the bush.

"Visas all have conditions and a condition that related to working in regional areas is certainly something that's feasible,” Mr Turnbull said.

"We have an absolutely considered, calibrated migration policy but we're always seeking to improve it.

“But again, we're working through it very, very carefully. "
